It is of the utmost importance to supervise your children when they are swimming. No matter how confident you are in their ability or experience, drowning is a threat to us all. We cannot afford to be distracted by others, jobs, chores, or even something irresponsible like our phones. Even for just a minute or two, it won’t be fine.
An alarming fact is that drowning is a silent danger. Drowning does not happen as depicted in movies or on social media. A child can go underwater in seconds, and without immediate intervention, the consequences can be tragic. A supervising parent will be quick to aid a struggling swimmer and prevent a tragedy.
Another benefit is that we set a good example to our children, showing the effort and responsibility to remain vigilant and safe when around water. Why not be present and enjoy your child’s exploration of water fun and safety?
